Ad-aware	Ad-aware was the original program for removing spyware - it is very good but unfortunately is has become a commercial since its original release. The site really tries to push its paid version and makes it's free version (personal edition) hard to locate. Follow this link to download.com for a direct download link.
Spybot Search and Destroy	Another great free program to check for Spyware. Spybot is more powerful you can check running processes, disable start-up programs etc.
